Nepacs is a long standing charity in the north east, working in seven prisons and twelve local authority areas to support positive futures for prisoners, ex-prisoners, their families and friends. Over the past decade, the organisation has grown and diversified to meet the needs of prisoners, children and families at each stage of the criminal justice system – from courts into custody, throughout a prison sentence, and then ‘through the gate’ and back into the community.

Last year the charity supported over 126,000 visits to north east prisons including nearly 20,000 child visits. These visits enable prisoners, families and children to maintain contact and relationships with their loved ones. This contact is crucial in reducing prisoner re-offending and the intergenerational impact of crime by promoting mental wellbeing for the children and young people affected.

At the moment Nepacs are re-launching their membership scheme and are particularly keen to attract more professionals and retired professionals with criminal justice experience to join them. Currently members receive quarterly newsletters, an annual review brochure as well as invitations to fundraising events and public meetings to raise awareness of criminal justice issues. Members can become as involved as they wish and the experience NAPO members would bring could make such a big difference to Nepacs’ work.

To become a member all you need to do is pledge a minimum of £10 a year – Go to http://www.nepacs.co.uk/page/become-a-member to find out more and to get started!
