Napo challenges SFO jurisdiction decision

At a recent NPS TU Engagement Meeting it was confirmed to the unions that a decision had been taken NOT to transfer SFO investigation to the remit for the HMI Probation.

We were told this was ‘on cost grounds’. Napo has raised and will continue to raise the political consequence of SFOs being managed centrally in a nationalised environment, where more direct accountability was targeted at the Minister, essentially risking the politicisation of SFOs.

Subsequently the government has produced a protocol to describe the respective roles and responsibilities of HM Inspectorate of Probation and the Ministry of Justice.
