Napo meets with Cafcass new leader

General Secretary Ian Lawrence, together with Family Court Section Co-Chairs Jay Barlow and Nicola Taylor-Ebong, met with the new Cafcass Chief Executive in London this week.

Jacky Tiotto,  has made an encouraging start in her first few months. Cafcass staff have received regular despatches covering Jacky’s work which has included engagement with front facing practitioners and partner agencies, as well as Ministers and senior MoJ leaders.

Our first meeting was an opportunity raise a number of key issues that our impacting on our FCS members, and included the serious workload pressures caused by a spike in demand for both Public and Private law services. In response, Jacky reported that Her priority was to fully explore what additional options might be available to achieve some breathing space for practitioners, and that regular high level engagement with politicians and the MoJ is currently taking place.

Some very constructive dialogue also took place on the continual difficulties of securing an early pay remit, Cafcass’s recruitment strategies, and feedback from families on the quality of service provision. Napo also emphasised the proven benefits of partnership working and our willingness to enlist our political allies in support of Cafcass’s strategic objectives, which was acknowledged by the Chief Executive.

Nicola Taylor-Ebong said: ‘I was impressed with the transparency in the responses from Jacky and the fact that she was willing to listen to the big issues that we brought to the table. Adding: ‘that I hope that this healthy dialogue between us can be maintained In the future.’

Napo also invited Jacky to address this years Family Court Professional Conference, and our Cafcass members are urged to look out for more news about this event as soon as it becomes available.
