A recent ruling on an age discrimination issue in the NHS pension scheme is likely to have an impact on LGPS members. The implications of the ruling have yet to be ironed out between Unions and Treasury. Initial understanding is that a calculation will need to be made for every individual to discover whether they would have had a better pension in pre-2014 or the post 2014 scheme in the Civil Service Pension Scheme with consideration then being given to how this effects members in other schemes such as the LGPS.
However, until we know more it would not be helpful to speculate on what that may mean in financial terms for our members. We are told that no concrete decisions will be made before the end of the year but any payments owed to scheme members will be made good retrospectively.
